SEIU lowers the bar with latest contract at Stanford Hospital
Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 7:09PM SEIU says hospital workers should stay in SEIU so they can get a contract like the one SEIU just settled for at Stanford Hospital. Would you want to work under this contract?
- Some workers could get just a 2% raise over two years.
- No guaranteed health insurance—and workers could have to pay up to $4,000 just to keep the plan they had before.
- No respect for seniority in filling vacant positions.
- Any job can be subcontracted.
- “Management rights” give the boss control over many issues that are guaranteed by other hospital contracts.
- The employer can lay off staff with no restrictions. The employer can change staffing levels and job descriptions at any time.
SEIU limited which workers were allowed to vote in order to make sure the contract was ratified.
