Dozens of Kaiser and hospital workers came to the Los Angeles labor board office to watch the ballot count and celebrate our victory together.
Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 5:32PM Voting for RNs at Kaiser Sunset/LAMC has ended with an overwhelming turnout for NUHW. The Kaiser Healthcare Professionals Chapter and Psych-Social Chapter are still voting by mail.
Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:59PM A majority of Southern California Kaiser professionals are voting NUHW to take control of our future—and elected officers of our RN chapter, Psych-Social chapter, and Healthcare Professionals Chapter endorse NUHW as our union.
Click below to read the names and see the whole mailing with quotes from our chapter leaders.
Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:18AM Hear why members and leaders of the Healthcare Professionals Chapter, Psych-social Chapter, and American Federation of Nurses are voting NUHW to take back our union.
Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 1:46AM Nearly 700 caregivers at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital became the newest members of our union Friday night when they voted to form their union with NUHW. Memorial workers overcame an aggressive anti-union campaign by hospital management, and rejected an cynical anti-NUHW campaign by SEIU.
The final vote was 283 for NUHW, 263 for No Union, and just 13 votes for SEIU.
Their overwhelming victory paves the way for our election next month at Kaiser!
Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 8:19PM Despite another desperate motion filed by SEIU last week to stop our vote, the NLRB has scheduled our election.
The Psych-Social and Healthcare Professional units will vote by mail, with ballots mailed Jan. 4. Registered Nurses at Kaiser Sunset/LAMC will vote at work on Jan. 6 and 7.
All ballots will be counted at 9:00 a.m. on January 26!

Jim Clifford, MS, Therapist at Kaiser San Diego Psychiatry
“We’re joining NUHW because we want democracy and integrity in our union again. SEIU has made deals behind our backs to cut our pension and lay off 1,800 of our co-workers. Now’s our chance to put members back in charge of our union.”
More than 2,300 healthcare professionals at dozens of Kaiser Permanente facilities across Southern California will soon vote to leave SEIU and join NUHW.
A majority of us filed petitions to join NUHW in February, but SEIU delayed the election by filing frivolous charges which were rejected yesterday afternoon in a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board. The election should be scheduled within 42 days.
Jim Clifford and 84 other workplace leaders signed a letter to their colleagues announcing the election and urging a vote for NUHW.

Bob Hardebeck, Surgical Tech at Garden Grove Hospital
“When SEIU agreed to subcontracting in 2007, we had to fight both SEIU and the employer for a year to protect our jobs and have a voice in our own contract. That’s why it’s so important for healthcare workers ourselves to control negotiations with our employers. In NUHW, we’re coming together to protect our jobs and our wages.”
Eight months after healthcare workers founded NUHW, our movement continues to grow. Today, a majority of workers at four Southern California hospitals filed petitions to join NUHW.
As the NLRB rejects more of SEIU’s fabricated blocking charges, more than 1,600 caregivers will have their chance to vote and join NUHW at Garden Grove Hospital, Providence Tarzana Medical Center, USC University Hospital, and Olympia Medical Center.
